Getting Started
Get up and running with Nautilus in under 5 minutes.
1. Download and Install
Download Nautilus from our download page. The app comes as a DMG file.
- Open the downloaded DMG file
- Drag Nautilus to your Applications folder
- Launch Nautilus from Applications or Spotlight
- If prompted, allow Nautilus in System Settings > Privacy & Security
2. Initial Setup
On first launch, Nautilus will set up the Lima virtual machine for Docker:
What is Lima? Lima is a lightweight virtualization tool that runs Linux on your Mac. Nautilus uses it to run Docker without Docker Desktop.
- Wait for Lima VM to download and initialize (2-5 minutes on first run)
- The status indicator in the menu bar will turn green when ready
- You're now ready to manage containers!
3. Activate Your License
If you're using the free trial, you can skip this step. Otherwise:
- Go to Settings (Cmd+,) > License
- Enter the license key from your purchase email
- Click Activate

4. Run Your First Container
Let's start a simple Nginx container to test everything works:
- Click the + button in the top toolbar or use the Home dashboard quick-launch cards
- Search for "nginx" in the image search
- Click Pull & Run
- Configure port mapping: set host port to
8080and container port to80 - Click Create Container
Open http://localhost:8080 in your browser. You should see the Nginx welcome page!
