Where are my notes stored?
As plain Markdown (.md) files with optional YAML front matter, in a folder (vault) you choose on your own disk. You can open them in any editor, back them up, or put them under git.
Can I use my existing Obsidian vault?
Yes. Metis uses the same plain Markdown + YAML + [[wiki links]] format. Import a vault (folders included) or point Metis at the same folder you use in Obsidian.
What do I need for the AI features?
An Apple Intelligence device running macOS 26 or iOS 26. The AI runs entirely on-device. On earlier systems the app is fully functional; the AI features are simply hidden.
Does Metis sync across devices?
Optionally, via iCloud Documents sync across your Macs, iPhones, and iPads, with conflict detection and a resolution UI on every platform (Mac: File → Resolve Sync Conflicts; iPhone and iPad: Settings → iCloud). It is files-first - your own files in your own iCloud. On iPhone and iPad a vault can also live entirely On My iPhone or On My iPad, with no iCloud account at all.
How much does Metis cost?
Metis is $29.99 one-time (per major version) - not a subscription, and not per device. One license covers up to 3 devices (1 Mac + 1 iPad + 1 iPhone). Try every feature free for 7 days first.
How do I get updates?
Metis checks for updates automatically and you can also check from the app menu. Updates are downloaded from empiricapps.com.
