No. $19.99 is one purchase that covers up to 3 devices - 1 Mac, 1 iPad, and 1 iPhone - on the same account. It is not billed per device or per seat.
Is it a subscription?
No. It is a one-time purchase, per major version. Every 2.x update is included; a future 3.0 would be a new purchase. No recurring charges.
I bought Metis 1.x - do I have to pay again for 2.0?
No. Everyone holding a Metis license when 2.0 shipped received 2.0 free, automatically - nothing to claim. Going forward the rule is published and applies to everyone: any purchase made in the 90 days before a new major version includes that major version at no cost.
Does buying on the Mac unlock my iPhone and iPad?
Yes. Buy once - on the Mac (via our checkout) or on the App Store (iOS) - then sign in on your other devices and the license unlocks everywhere, up to the 3-device limit.
Is there a trial?

How is activation handled?
