Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to common EmpiricCommander questions

How do I start the free trial?
Download EmpiricCommander from the App Store, open the app, and you'll get a 7-day free trial with Pro features unlocked. No payment is required to start the trial. After 7 days, you can purchase the Pro upgrade as a one-time In-App Purchase to continue using Pro features.
How do I restore a previous purchase?
Open EmpiricCommander, go to Settings > Account, scroll to the License section, and tap Restore Purchases. Make sure you're signed in to the same Apple ID you used to purchase.
How is EmpiricCommander licensed across iPhone, iPad, and Mac?
iOS and iPadOS versions are purchased on the App Store as a one-time In-App Purchase. The Mac version is distributed from our website and is a separate purchase. If you use both and want a single license to follow you across platforms, sign in to your Empiric Apps account in the app on each device. Sign-in is optional on iOS/iPadOS - the App Store purchase alone is enough to use Pro on your Apple devices.
I bought Pro on my iPhone. Can I use it on my iPad?
Yes. Make sure both devices are signed in to the same Apple ID. On the new device, open EmpiricCommander, go to Settings > Account > License, and tap Restore Purchases.
What can I do with EmpiricCommander on iPhone and iPad?
Browse local files and iCloud Drive; connect to remote servers (SFTP/FTP, S3-compatible storage, Azure Blob Storage); copy, move, rename, and organize files in a fast dual-pane interface; preview files; and use workspaces to keep multiple connections at hand. Some Mac-only features are not available on iOS/iPadOS: SMB, the full integrated terminal (zsh/bash), and 7z/RAR archives.
Does EmpiricCommander send my files or credentials to your servers?
No. Your files, server credentials, and remote configurations stay on your device and the services you connect to. Connection passwords and OAuth tokens are stored exclusively in the iOS/iPadOS system Keychain; connection metadata (host, username) is stored in the app's sandboxed storage on your device. We only contact our servers to verify your purchase status, and to validate sign-in if you choose to sign in.
How do I add an SFTP, S3, or Azure connection?
In EmpiricCommander, open the connections panel and add a new connection. Choose the provider (SFTP/FTP, S3-compatible storage, Azure Blob Storage), enter your credentials, and save. Passwords and tokens are stored in the system Keychain; the rest of the connection details stay in the app's sandboxed storage on your device.
Can I get a refund?
Refunds depend on where you bought EmpiricCommander. For App Store purchases (iPhone and iPad), request a refund from Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com. For Mac purchases made on our website, email us at contact@empiricapps.com and we'll help you through the process.
How do I update to the latest version?
Updates are delivered automatically through the App Store. To check manually, open the App Store, tap your profile, and pull down to refresh. Pending updates for EmpiricCommander will appear there.
I'm having trouble. What info should I include in my support email?
Please include: your device (iPhone, iPad, or Mac model), OS version, EmpiricCommander version, a description of the problem, and steps to reproduce. Screenshots or a short screen recording help a lot. Send everything to contact@empiricapps.com.
